FBI Agents Association Statement on 21st Anniversary of 9/11 Terrorist Attacks
Eligible FBIAA Members Encouraged to Register with the World Trade Center Health Program and Victims Compensation Fund

Washington, DC: FBI Agents Association President Brian O’Hare issued the following statement:
“The FBI Agents Association (FBIAA) marks the 21st anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks by remembering all the victims and their families.
FBIAA honors the memory today of FBI Special Agent Leonard “Lenny” Hatton and retired FBI Special Agent John P. O’Neill. Agent Hatton rushed to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 and reported critical information to the FBI and assisted emergency responders in leading people from the Tower to safety. Mr. O’Neill, who retired from the FBI in August 2001 to become Chief of Security for the World Trade Center, had escaped from the North Tower but returned to help others. Agent Hatton and Mr. O’Neill lost their lives when the Tower collapsed.
We also remember FBI Special Agents and other first responders who were exposed to toxins and hazardous materials at 9/11 sites in the performance of their duty. Agents and other first responders continue to fall ill from this exposure. Well over 100 FBI employees are among the 60,000 emergency responders, recovery and cleanup workers at the 9/11 sites who have been diagnosed with certified 9-11 related illnesses according to the World Trade Center Health Program.
FBIAA honors the memory of the 16 fallen Agents, four professional staff members, and a member of the FBI Police who have passed away from 9/11-related illnesses: Special Agents Dennis Bonelli, Steven A. Carr, William R. Craig, Brian L. Crews, Laurie Fournier, Jerry D. Jobe, Mark C. Johnston, David J. LeValley, Mark J. Mikulski, Thomas Mohnal, Melissa S. Morrow, Robert M. Roth, Gerard D. Senatore, Rex A. Stockham, Paul H. Wilson and Wesley J. Yoo, as well as professional employees Nicole Conti, William “Homer” Lewis, Bryan Myers and Saul Tocker and FBI Police Lieutenant Yiu Tak “Louis” Tao.
FBIAA, in partnership with the FBI, is ensuring that fallen Agents, Agents confronting 9/11 illnesses and their families are provided the support they need and deserve. This support includes assistance and benefits from the U.S. Department of Labor, World Trade Center Health Program, Victims Compensation Fund (VCF) and other sources. Fallen Agents from 9/11-related illnesses are now recognized on the FBI Wall of Honor for having given their lives, and FBIAA’s Memorial College Fund pays a majority of the college costs for the children of members who pass away while they are active duty Agents.
FBIAA strongly encourages Agents to register with The World Trade Center Health Program at www.cdc.gov/wtc/ and the VCF at www.vcf.gov.
We remember with gratitude the victims and their families, Agents and other first responders and their families, and all of the 9/11 heroes who served our fellow citizens with courage and compassion.
FBIAA’s eighth annual G-Man Honors: A Salute to FBI Heroes event held in November 2021 included a special remembrance of the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks. All proceeds from this year’s G-Man event, to be held on November 17, will again benefit FBIAA’s two charitable funds, the Memorial College Fund and the Membership Assistance Fund.
