FBI Agents Association Statement on

Change to Airline Security Rules Regarding Pocket Knives

Washington, DC – March 8, 2013:  The FBI Agents Association (FBIAA), representing over 12,000 active duty and retired FBI Special Agents, issued the following statement today regarding the recently announced change to Airline Security Rules by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) that would allow pocket knives to be brought on board commercial aircraft.

It is not clear why TSA would allow passengers to carry pocket knives on planes.  These knives can pose a threat to the safety of passengers and crew on commercial aircraft and should remain treated in the same manner as razor blades and box cutters, which are still prohibited by TSA.  The FBIAA hopes that the TSA will further explain, and consider reversing, this change prior to its implementation on April 25, 2013.

This statement can be attributed to Konrad Motyka, President, FBIAA.

The FBIAA is a professional association with a membership of nearly 12,000 active and retired agents nationwide.  The FBIAA was founded over two decades ago in response to the growing recognition that agents needed to join together in order to protect and advance the interests of agents both within the Bureau, as well as in the public domain.  The FBIAA works diligently to promote and facilitate the intelligent, skillful, and efficient discharge of the professional duties of all FBI agents.  The Association works hard to advance and safeguard the careers, economic interests, conditions of employment, and welfare of active and retired FBI agents.
