The Fund was named after the following 5 Agents ( all died in the same month in December, 1982). 

SA Burchette died in a bureau car crash on December 22, 1982.  SAs Conners, Ellington, Hereford and Lynch were killed in a plane crash on December 16, 1982 while transporting a subject of a bank and embezzlement case in an FBI aircraft.


Ernest C. Burchette
 
Ernest C. Burchette - On December 22, 1982, Special Agent ERNEST C. BURCHETTE was killed in an automobile accident while on active duty.  He was 37 years old.  Ernest Burchette was born on September 3, 1946 in Elkin, North Carolina.  He graduated from the University of South Florida with a BS degree in Accounting in 1975.  He was awarded his CPA license in 1979 from the state of Texas.  Special Agent Burchette entered the FBI in 1976.  He was first assigned to the Dallas Division and transferred to Boston in July, 1979.  He is survived by his wife, Ruth.
Robert W. Conners  
Robert W. Conners - Robert Conners was born on October 12, 1946 in Dayton, Ohio.  He graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1968.  He served in the U.S. Air Force, where he was a pilot, pilot-instructor and held a L-382 (Lockhead Hercules C-130) rating.  Special Agent Conners held a commercial pilot license for single/multi-engine and instrument ratings and he had in excess of 3,000 flying hours.  Special Agent Conners entered the FBI in January 1979.  He was assigned to the Chicago Division in May, 1979.  SA Robert W. Conners was 37 years old and resided in Naperville, Illinois.  He is survived by his wife Beverly and three children.
Charles L. Ellington  

Charles L. Ellington - Charles Ellington was born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 20, 1946.  After high school, Special Agent Ellington spent 4 years in the United States Marine Corps, which included a tour of duty in Viet Nam.  He obtained an Associates Degree from DeKalb College, Clarkston, Georgia, in 1973 and graduated from Georgia State University in 1977 with a Bachelors of Business Administration / Management Degree.  Special Agent Ellington entered the FBI in December, 1979.  He was assigned to the Atlanta Division until August, 1981, when he was transferred to Chicago.   SA Ellington was 35 years old and resided in Naperville, Illinois.  He is survived by his wife Juliana and a daughter.

 

Terry Burnett Hereford  
Terry Burnett Hereford - Terry Hereford was born in Pomona, California on July 24, 1948.  After high school, he served in the Army Airborne.  He was wounded in action in Viet Nam and received a Purple Heart.  He then attended San Diego Mesa College, San Diego State University and U.S. International University, all of San Diego, California.  He earned an Associates Degree in Business Management, a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, and a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology.    Special Agent Hereford entered the FBI in December, 1979.  He was assigned to the San Diego Division until December, 1980 when he was transferred to Chicago.  Special Agent Hereford was  a licensed commercial pilot.  He was 34 years old and resided in Wheaton, Illinois.  He is survived by his wife Nancy and four children.
Michael Lynch  
Michael J. Lynch - Michael Lynch was born in Lima, Ohio on September 21, 1947.  He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree at Wright State University in 1975.  Between high school and college, Special Agent Lynch had a four-year tour of duty in the U.S. Air Force.  Special Agent Lynch entered the FBI in March, 1976.  He was assigned to the Indianapolis  Division until November, 1978 when he was transferred to Chicago.  Michael J. Lynch was 35 years old and resided in Woodridge, Illinois.  He is survived by his wife Jane and four children.
